Emerging Media - Topic and Design Brief
This week looks at how to start planning the project. The topic selection was straightforward as I had personal experience of the condition and was surprised by the lack of knowledge that is still not known about pre-eclampsia in pregnant women, and that being aware of symptomology is very important. A mobile phone app is one way of providing support to vulnerable women and would need to be used in conjunction with a healthcare professional. According to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the condition affects eight percent of pregnant women (RCOG, 2023).
Project Description
Topic Selection 1: Health & Well-Being.
Name of product: Eclamtrac
Description: A digital tracker of Pre-eclampsia symptoms in pregnancy.
Target Market: Medical clinics to provide specialist care to vulnerable pregnant women alongside their healthcare providers.
Design Use: Mobile app.
Main Activity: To track symptomology and record self-testing diagnostic kits at home, that can be viewed by a healthcare provider for extra reassurance.
Secondary Activity: To provide data research leading to improved understanding the aetiology of the condition for future generations.
SMART Goals for Project
Specific: To design and build a working prototype for a healthcare app.
Measurable: To break down project into weekly tasks over the duration of the module.
Achievable: By completing a set amount each week.
Relevant: It will fulfil the RSA project brief by “democratising health and wellbeing, creating the conditions and tools for individuals to help themselves” (RSA, 2023).
Time Based: It will run in alignment with the module duration of twelve weeks.
Budget and Resources: Use of relevant software packages: Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator as well as Adobe XD. Extra costs will be incurred though Adobe Stock photography.
Deliverables: A working prototype for a mobile app, branding and sitemap.
